Atlantic City Electric, Bottino’s Shoprite, South Jersey Gas, Wal-Mart, and Susquehanna Bank play major roles

MILLVILLE, N.J. – Over 500 local school children are scheduled to visit New Jersey Motorsports Park on Friday, Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to enjoy their “Coats for Kids” holiday program hosted by the New Jersey Motorsports Park Green Flag Children’s Charities.

Cumberland County elementary and middle school students, selected by their school, will choose a brand new winter coat, a pair of gloves or mittens, a hat and a scarf, a book or two and then enjoy a hot, healthy lunch, plus a visit with Santa and some corporate mascots. Each item has been donated to the drive by corporations, Green Flag Committee members, and racers.

“The support of the corporate and local volunteer and racing community in providing these children with brand new warm-weather clothing of their choice is overwhelming,” said Patti Mackie, co-chairperson of the Coats for Kids committee.

“This is one of those special events we look forward to hosting every holiday season,” said Brad Scott, general manager and COO of New Jersey Motorsports Park. “We’re thankful for the support of the community and we’re pleased that over 500 children in Cumberland County will benefit from our coat drive.”

“The Green Flag Committee volunteers work hard to support our local children’s organizations,” said Don Fauerbach, founder of the NJMP Green Flag Committee. “For the seventh year in a row we are providing these children in need warmth, love, and happiness during the holidays. We’re thankful for the support of our sponsors, our community, and all the racers who have helped us raise the funds necessary to accomplish this special goal for these children.”

Leading the corporate contribution list are; Bottino’s Shoprite, Wal-Mart, South Jersey Gas, Susquehanna Bank, and Atlantic City Electric with their generous contributions. Bottino’s Shoprite Stores are donating, preparing and serving the complete luncheon for the children, Wal-Mart is contributing new coats, and South Jersey Gas, Atlantic City Electric, and Susquehanna Bank are providing funding to purchase a portion of the winter wear.

The motorsports community has once again provided significant support for this year’s coat drive. The South Jersey Region of the Sport Car Club of America (SCCA) conducted a funds drive to benefit Coats for Kids, raising hundreds of dollars to help purchase additional winter coats during their recent regional races held at NJMP, and numerous Porsche and BMW racing clubs have also made substantial contributions.

In addition to the Coats for Kids program, NJMP plays host to a number of community fund raising events throughout the year. The facility also annually hosts the Barbara Cook and Bill Bottino Mud Run to fight Cancer and a Daytona 500 viewing party that raises funds for the Green Flag Children’s Charities.

Our 6th Annual Coat Drive for our Coats For Kids Program has begun. Last year, we managed to provide 507 children from 17 Cumberland County Schools with a brand new warm winter coat, scarf, wool hat, and mittens, plus a visit with Santa and a hot meal in our Officers’ Club at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

This year, our children will come to the park on December 6th.

<img src="http://www.njmpgfc.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/NJMP-C4K-GAL-5-600x400.jpg" alt="Our volunteers will help over 500 area children choose a winter coat this year.
Hosted by the Green Flag Children’s Charities at NJMP, elementary and middle school students selected by their schools throughout Cumberland County, are able to choose a brand new winter coat, a pair of gloves or mittens, and a hat & scarf.

Once the children have selected their new winter wear, a hot lunch consisting of mac n’ cheese, chicken fingers, P-B & J sandwiches and franks & beans will be provided and served to them thanks to Bottinos’ Shoprite Stores. The children are encouraged to write a letter to Santa and present it to him after the luncheon.

Over 70 volunteers from the Green Flag Committee and generous corporate contributions make the event possible. Volunteers collect the new coats throughout the year from local individuals and corporate sponsors. This year, our major corporate partners are South Jersey Gas Company, Bottinos Shoprite Stores, Atlantic City Electric, Susquehanna Bank, and Walmart.

“We always look forward to this special holiday event for needy children from within Cumberland County,” says Brad Scott, general manager of NJMP. Don Fauerbach, founder of the Green Flag Committee at NJMP added “This event will provide many smiling faces and happy hearts for these special children who otherwise might not receive new winter clothing, and all the volunteers share tremendous pride for their participation as elves for the children.”

The website aims to not only educate the public about what the Green Flag Committee does in the community and its role at the Motorsports Park, but also provide the public an easy way to get involved in its ongoing mission, “Racing To Support Children In Need.” Throughout the site, visitors will find ways to interact with the committee, including making donations and finding ways to get involved themselves.

Visitors can find charity events sponsored by the committee, make donations and learn about the many roles the Green Flag members play in their community. Future plans include a web store to benefit Green Flag Childrens’ Charities, members profiles and an ongoing history of the organization.

Founded in 2004, The Green Flag Committee’s mission is to help children in the area through charity and support and promote New Jersey Motorsports Park through volunteerism.

The Green Flag Committee, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, is comprised of individuals who share a common commitment to enhance the overall quality of life in Cumberland County through volunteerism and charitable activities, with a strong focus on the needs of children and youth.

The GFC also works to inform the general public of the features and benefits of the New Jersey Motorsports Park and related Millville Airport tourism centers. It provides operational support for NJMP charitable events and related social and public affairs. In addition, the GFC works in close partnership with regional non-profit organizations, chambers of commerce, and public schools, for the betterment of the local community.

While during the course of the year the GFC assists many organizations in their charitable events, its primary focus is its annual Coats for Kids Program, a heart-warming event that provides new winter coats, scarves, mittens, hats, slippers, books, a visit with Santa, and a warm lunch to over 500 of Cumberland County’s children in need during the holiday season.

Who are the Green Flag Committee members? They are people in the community. Professionals, retailers, race fans; people from all walks of life. Our members share many things in common. We are all passionate about racing, we all love to push ourselves and we celebrate our camaraderie. We also share the common core values of Altruism and Volunteerism.

Altruism (al·tru·ism – noun \ˈal-trü-ˌi-zəm\): feelings and behavior that show a desire to help other people and a lack of selfishness

Our core belief is that through our passion and camaraderie, we can support the community that we belong to through our organization and affiliations with our fellow racing fans. Our biggest event, December’s Coats For Kids Drive allows us to participate in a Christmas gift to the children of our area who are in need. We gather together to provide for these children so that they may know the warmth and kindness that we share with everyone.

Volunteerism (vol·un·teer·ism – noun \ˌvä-lən-ˈtir-ˌi-zəm\): activity intended to promote good or improve human quality of life for no financial gain involved

Volunteering at NJMP events, both charity and racing related joins us together to promote and support a place we love and allows us to reach out to the community. We are a public face for the park and the South Jersey racing community. We give our time helping others to enjoy our little corner of the world. We also assist other charities to hold events and raise money and awareness for their causes. The Green Flag Committee members can often be spotted in our green jerseys assisting spectators, passing out information or raising awareness for the Racing To Support Children In Need initiative.
